Carhire Ireland Rental Terms for travel between 01-May-2016 and 31-Dec-2019


Rates are inclusive of third party insurance, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW), Theft Waiver (THW), unlimited mileage, Airport/Location Surcharge, Vehicle Licence Fee, 24 hour breakdown service and Value Added Tax (VAT) @ 13.5%.  The date of commencement determines the seasonal rate for the entire rental.

All rates are quoted in Euro.

Any amounts that you collect over and above the contracted rates from your customer is for your account and relates to the service you provide to your customers.

Airport/Location Surcharge
Airport/Location Surcharge is included in the rate (unless specifically identified as being excluded on your rate sheet).

Extra Hours
All hirers are allowed a one-hour period of grace provided that the vehicle is returned within our hours of operation.  Hirers exceeding this will pay any extra charges directly at the local rate.

Maximum Length of Rental
The maximum length of rental allowed on one voucher is 28 days.  For rentals of a longer duration, please contact Central Reservations.

Higher Vat Rate
Customers who rent from us for more than 35 days in a 12 month rolling period will be subject to the higher rate of vat at 23%.  This will be recalculated locally.

Early Returns
We do not issue refunds for unused days.

Acceptance of these Terms
Please initial each page of this document, sign the last page and return to us by email or fax.

Driver Requirements
Licence
To drive one of our rental vehicles, drivers must be in possession of a full, unendorsed driving licence which they have held for at least 2 YEARS prior to the commencement of the rental.  Licences must be produced at the CARHIRE location at the time of collection.  Drivers must be in possession of their licence at all times when driving the vehicle.  Certain minor endorsements may be accepted – please check with Central Reservations BEFORE making a booking.  Licences must be from the country of permanent residence.  NON-EU/EEA driving licences cannot be accepted if the holder has been resident in Ireland for more than 12 months.

Holders of UK, US, Canadian, Australian and all EU member states are NOT required to supply an International Driving Permit (IDP).  International Driving Permits where required, MUST BE accompanied by the original domestic licence of the driver.  This is clearly stated on the international permit.  An International permit presented without the domestic licence, will not be accepted.

UK Driving Licence Holders
From June 8th 2015, the UK paper part of your driving licence will no longer be valid. We will require all UK licence holders to present evidence of your driving record (entitlements/endorsements) before the vehicle can be released. This can be obtained by printing it out from the DVLA’s ‘Share Driving Licence’ section - https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence - before you collect your vehicle.

We reserve the right to ask prequalifying questions on your insurance history.  You may be refused a vehicle based on the answers you provide.

Age
At the commencement of rental, drivers must meet the requirement for licence eligibility.  If the number of years is 8, this does not mean that the driver must have held their licence for 8 years - it means they must have been eligible to hold their licence for 8 years.

For car group:
MBMN/EBMN/EDMN/CDMN/CDMR/CDMD/IDMN/IDMR/IDMD/CWMR/IWMR/IFMR/IFAR/EDAN/CDAN/CDAR/IDAN/IDAR/IDAD/IFMD
drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 8 years

For car group:
FDMR/SVMN/SVMR/PVMR/FDAR/SVAN/SVAR/PVAR/PDAR
drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 11 years

For driving licences issued in USA and Canada
MBMN/EBMN/EDMN/CDMN/CDMR/CDMD/IDMN/IDMR/IDMD/CWMR/IWMR/IFMR/IFAR/EDAN/CDAN/CDAR/IDAN/IDAR/IDAD/IFMD
drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 9 years

FDMR/SVMN/SVMR/PVMR/FDAR/SVAN/SVAR/PVAR/PDAR
drivers must have been eligible to hold a driving licence for 12 years

Drivers aged 75 and over will need to provide a PRINTED medical certificate/letter which states that they are fit to drive and a letter from their insurance company stating that they are currently driving and have not had an accident within the last 5 years.  This information must be received at least 5 working days in advance of your rental and must be dated within 3 months of the pickup date.

Credit Card
The main driver must be the holder of a major credit card which they must produce on arrival.  In the case of a “Chip and Pin” credit card, the card holder must know their PIN number.  A credit card is required for the excess/deductible and additional charges such as extra drivers, fuel, parking fines etc.  CARHIRE accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club and Discover Cards.  We cannot accept debit cards, prepaid cards, electronic cards or cash.  The credit card must be in the name of the main driver.  At the time of rental there must be sufficient credit on your card to cover all charges including the excess/deductible amount.  We Cannot Hire a Car To Anyone Arriving Without a Credit Card (or who does not know their pin) or one who does not have sufficient credit on their card to cover all charges.

Regardless of the level of coverage purchased, ALL renters will be subject to a preauthorisation on their credit card of €50.  This is in the event of traffic fines, toll charges etc.

Pickup Requirements
On collection of our vehicle, the lead driver must be in possession of their credit card, their driving licence (and DVLA code for UK drivers) and either 2 utility bills dated within the last 3 months confirming their home address (as per their driving licence) OR return flight confirmation details.

Additional drivers must also have their licence (and DVLA code for UK drivers) but do not need utility bills.

One Way Rentals
One way rentals between branches are charged directly to the client on collection of the vehicle.

Flight Information
For all rentals commencing at an airport location, arrival flight information must be provided for bookings to be completed.  Flights should be scheduled to land within our branch opening hours. Where flight information is not provided or incorrect information is provided, we cannot be held responsible for a failed rental and no refund will be due.

Meet Late Arrival
Where a flight is delayed (and we have been advised of the flight number at the time of original reservation) and the customer arrives at our desk 30 minutes or less after our closing time, no additional fee to the customer applies.  If the customer arrives at our desk 30 minutes or more after our closing time, an Out of Hours fee of €40 will apply.  Please contact the branch directly for further information.

Out of Hours Reservations Requests
Advance reservations outside our opening hours, will be catered for where possible.   Please send your request in writing to reservations@carhire.ie.  Please note that these reservations are on a request basis only and must be requested with us before confirming back to your customer.  Where the out of hours reservation has been accepted, a fee of €40 is payable on arrival at the pickup location directly by the renter.

Vehicle Hold
Vehicles will only be held for 1 hour after the booked pickup time/landing time within our opening hours.  After this time, the vehicle may not be available.

Car Returns
Cars may be returned outside our location hours by prior arrangement only.  Cars that are returned outside the above location opening times will be charged for any damage or any loss incurred until the car is returned to the car rental company.

Vehicle Information
Car Types
CARHIRE operates a fleet with many different makes and models of cars.  Whilst every effort will be made to supply the reserved model, we reserve the right to supply a suitable alternative.  Please note that we cannot guarantee a particular make or model.

Vehicle Availability
Please see availability by branch by car group on Page 9.  All car groups are subject to periodic stop sales which may occur at peak times throughout the year.  You will be advised of these in writing.  CARHIRE accepts no responsibility for costs incurred in the unlikely event of a vehicle not being available nor a suitable alternative being provided.

Fuel Policy
We offer two fuel options:
1. PREPAID FUEL
Customers can choose our prepaid fuel option at the beginning of their rental at our special discounted rates.  For the driver's convenience, there is no need to refill the car.  With this option, no refunds will be given for unused fuel.  Prices for this option are set locally.
2.  STANDARD REFUELLING
Customers can return the car as they wish.  Should the car return less than full, the customer will be charged our standard refuelling price per litre.

No compensation will be given for fuel charges if an upgrade to a larger car is given.

Travel to Northern Ireland
Should the client wish to drive in Northern Ireland it is a requirement of rental that they inform CARHIRE that they wish to do so prior to leaving the rental location.  There is a nominal €34.05 fee when taking a car into Northern Ireland.  Cars cannot be taken off the island of Ireland at any stage and must be returned in the Republic.  Failure to purchase the required cover will result in the renter accepting full responsibility for any recovery fees, should the car breakdown.

M50 Toll Information
Customers will be advised on collection of the vehicle what our M50 Toll Road policy is.

Traffic Fines
Speeding, parking and other endorsements/fines are the responsibility of the hirer in full.  CARHIRE accepts no responsibility for any fine or payment.  The renter is obliged to inform CARHIRE of any fines or parking tickets issued whilst the vehicle is being used by the renter.  Where CARHIRE receive a fine that was not settled when issued, the total cost of the fine, plus an administration fee of €20.00, will be charged to the main driver’s credit card.

Upgrades
If on arrival the client feels that the car they have booked is not suitable for their requirements, we will be happy to provide a larger vehicle if available.  Upgrade charges are payable on arrival at the local daily rate.  If a customer is given a free upgrade on arrival, we cannot accept any customer service queries regarding fuel or coverage costs.

Early Returns
We do not issue refunds for charges paid directly on arrival by the renter in the event of the vehicle returning earlier than booked.

Charging for No Shows
In the event of a No Show, you will be charged 1 day’s rental for vehicle Groups FDMR, FDAR, SVMR, SVAR, PVAR, PVMR, PDAR.

Damage Excess Refund Policies
If you decide to use an insurance excess waiver policy purchased through a third party to cover your limited liability, please understand that it does not waive your excess with CARHIRE directly.  CARHIRE will require a preauthorisation of the excess amount on the driver's credit card on collection of the vehicle.  In the event of damage, CARHIRE will charge the card for the excess amount on return.  The onus is on the driver to claim back these costs from the third party insurance provider.

Personal Benefits Membership
PBM covers the driver for personal injuries or fatalities up to €31,750 in the event of an accident whilst in the vehicle and costs €6.81 per day.

Roadside Assistance Waiver
RSA is available at a cost of €4.54 - €6.81 per day and covers the driver against potential breakdown recovery costs such as use of incorrect fuel in the vehicle, assistance with the retrieval of keys locked inside a vehicle, delivery of replacement for lost keys etc.  Further information will be available on collection of the vehicle.

Complete Car Coverage
This optional coverage is a package that combines our SDW and RSA cover giving you full coverage on the rental vehicle.

Premium Coverage
This optional coverage is a package that combines our SDW, RSA and PBM giving you full coverage on the rental vehicle as well as personal injury cover for the driver.

Additional Drivers
Additional drivers can be added for a daily fee of €10.22.  Additional drivers can be added on collection of the vehicle only.  Normal age and licence restrictions apply.  Please note unauthorised drivers are not covered by us and are prohibited from driving the rental car. The additional driver must be present at time of pickup and must fulfil all the same criteria as the principle driver.

GPS Units
Garmin Nuvi GPS units are available to rent at a cost of €12.00 per day to a maximum of €90.00 per rental.
The non-return or loss of a GPS unit will be charged directly to the renter at a cost of €200.

Baby Seats
Baby seats are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental.  If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78.  Baby seats are forward facing and are suitable for children from 9 – 18KG.  We cannot provide rear facing baby seats or baby seats for infants less than 9 KG.  We must be advised of child's age upon booking.

Booster Cushions
Booster cushions are available by prior notification at the time of booking at an additional cost of €6.81 per day to maximum cost of €47.67 per rental.  If more than one child seat is required per vehicle, there is a maximum cost of €73.78.  Booster cushions are suitable for children up to 6 years.

The law in Ireland states that an appropriate child restraint MUST be used.  New EU Child Safety Protection Laws have come into force making it compulsory for all children to travel in the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion.  Where safety belts have been fitted they must be worn.  Children under 3 years of age must not travel in a car unless restrained in the correct child seat.  Children aged 3 years or over who are under 150cms in height and weighing less than 36 kilograms (i.e. generally children up to 11/12 years old) must use the correct child seat, booster seat or booster cushion when travelling in cars.  Child car seats must be in accordance with EU or United Nations- Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) standards.  Drivers have a legal responsibility to ensure passengers aged under 17 use the correct seat, booster seat, booster cushion or seatbelt.

Further Information
Customer Service Issues
Any customer service issues or complaints must be received in writing within 28 days of the termination of rental.  Please email our Customer Service Department on customerservice@carhire.ie.  We will respond to you within 28 days.

VAT
All of the above charges are INCLUSIVE of Government Tax (VAT) @ 13.5% which is subject to change.

CARHIRE Ireland accepts no responsibility for delays which may occur at the start of the hire due to circumstances beyond our control.

Please ensure these Terms and Conditions are updated in your system as of the agreed start date. Please also ensure they are communicated to all intermediaries/third parties that have access to sell the CARHIRE Ireland product. CARHIRE Ireland can not be held responsible for out of date Terms and Conditions.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

Liability
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

Disputes
If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
